RAWALPINDI, Jul 17 (APP):In response to recent heavy rainfall, Deputy CEO Nasir Kamal of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) conducted a detailed inspection of major rain drainage within the cantonment’s jurisdiction to assess the water flow and drainage operations.
CEO Syed Ali Irfan Rizvi has directed all relevant officers and staff to remain actively deployed in the field during the rainy season to ensure effective management of the situation.
During the visit, the deputy chief examined the situation in key areas, including Nullah Lai, Tench Bhatta, Jan Colony, Friend Colony, and other parts of the cantonment. He reviewed the ongoing cleaning operations of deep drains which were being carried out on an emergency basis using heavy machinery.
Chief Public Health Officer Nasir Hussain briefed the Deputy CEO that the cleaning of nullahs was progressing speedily and would be completed soon. Deputy CEO Kamal emphasized that no negligence in the cleaning operations will be tolerated and instructed field staff to remain vigilant and proactive.
“RCB is taking all necessary measures to prevent any emergency situations caused by the heavy rainfall”, said the Deputy CEO and urged citizens to ensure the safety of their children by preventing them from approaching rainwater drains during the rainy season.
He informed that under the guidance of CEO Syed Ali Irfan Rizvi, the RCB is committed to maintaining efficient drainage systems and ensuring public safety. “All available resources are being utilized to address potential challenges and maintain smooth operations across the cantonment”, he added.
On the other side, citizens too appreciated the efforts of RCB in maintaining the smooth flow of water heavy downdrop during the last 24 hours.
RCB has already completed the drain cleaning drive in which 29 drains were cleared through disposing of the garbage and other affluent causing water blockage. However, a repetitive approach was exercised by the RCB to clean the deep drains which had caused damages to lives, properties and belongings in the past.
“We have strategized our drive by putting special focus on deep rain drains, through which low lying areas were specially monitored during the recent monsoon spell”, said Syed Ali Irfan Rizvi while interacting with APP.
However, a few complaints of water entered in houses were reported by the residents of Jan Colony, to which RCB teams put their efforts to timely clear the area.
The District Emergency Service, Rescue-1122 also visited some of the areas exposed to heavy water flow.
“We have deployed rescue d relief teams in all danger zones for quick response, but didn’t wait for any complaints and remained active in target localities”, said Muhammad Usman, Spokesman Rescue-1122.
