RAWALPINDI, Dec 31 (APP):Water supply from Rawal Dam to Rawalpindi will be reduced by up to 50 percent from January 1 to January 11, 2026, due to cleaning and repair work on the dam’s canal system.
The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the Small Dam Organisation and the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Rawalpindi.
Under the approved plan, repair and desilting of the main canal originating from Rawal Dam will be carried out from January 1 to January 3, while work on the right and left bank canals will continue from January 3 to January 11, the WASA spokesman said on Wednesday.
During this period, the supply of raw water from Rawal Dam to WASA will remain partially suspended.
The reduction is expected to affect several areas of the city, including Committee Chowk, Raja Bazaar, Old Fort, Mohanpura, Bagh Sardaran, Dhok Mangtal and Arya Mohalla.
However, water supply from Khanpur Dam and tube wells will continue as usual in these localities.
“Alternative arrangements are being made to mitigate the impact, including enhanced supply from Khanpur Dam, tube wells and water bowsers,” he said and added that uninterrupted provision of clean drinking water from its mini filtration plants across the city would also be ensured.
Managing Director WASA Rawalpindi Muhammad Saleem Ashraf directed water supply officers and staff to ensure uninterrupted supply from alternative sources and ordered urgent repair of tube wells and prompt redressal of consumer complaints.
Ashraf appealed to citizens to use water judiciously during the period and restrict consumption to drinking, cooking and other essential domestic needs.
He urged the public to avoid washing floors, vehicles, motorcycles, lawns and gardens, and to ensure taps are not left running.
Efforts would be made to complete the maintenance work within the stipulated schedule so that the normal water supply from Rawal Dam could be restored after January 11.
Citizens have been advised to contact WASA Rawalpindi’s field offices or helpline 1334 for complaints, emergencies or requests for water bowser services.
