Rawalpindi reports 23 new dengue cases

RAWALPINDI, Oct 22 (APP):The District Health Authority (DHA) Rawalpindi has intensified its campaign against dengue fever by screening over 17,000 suspected patients this year. The district has recorded 1,142 confirmed dengue cases, with 23 new infections reported in the last 24 hours.
According to the latest data released by the authority, the hospitals across Rawalpindi have screened a total of 17,755 patients for dengue symptoms, of which 1,142 have tested positive. Currently, 47 confirmed cases are admitted for treatment.
The authority has deployed 1,359 surveillance teams to inspect 5,881,056 households in the district. A total of 1,86,899 houses have been found positive. Moreover, 1,652,399 potential spots were checked so far during the year, finding 25,607 positive locations and destroying a total of 212,506 larvae.
“Every positive site is a potential source of transmission, we have neutralized said Dr Waqar Ahmad, spokesperson for DHA.
The authorities have taken punitive actions, including a total of 4,603 cases lodged against dengue SOP violations, while 1,877 properties/ spots have been sealed. Additionally, 3,571 challans have been issued, culminating in fines amounting to over Rs11.1 million.
“These measures target individuals and premises found breeding larvae or SOPs violations, serving as a strong deterrent”, Dr Waqar said.
He urged residents to eliminate standing water, use repellents and report suspicious sites via helplines.
“Dengue is preventable with collective vigilance”, he added.
