RAWALPINDI, Feb 02 (APP): Acting on the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani, Rawalpindi Police on Monday organised awareness walk in different localities to discourage kite flying and aerial firing and to highlight their legal and safety implications.
The walk was conducted in areas falling in the jurisdiction of Waris Khan and Banni police stations and were led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Waris Khan, along with station house officers (SHOs).
Members of traders’ associations, peace committee representatives and a large number of citizens also participated.
Police officials informed participants that kite flying has been declared a non-bailable offence, carrying a punishment of three to seven years’ imprisonment under the law. Citizens were urged to refrain from kite flying, aerial firing, fireworks or any other unlawful activity.
The officials warned that strict legal action would be taken against violators without any discrimination.
Parents were specifically advised to educate their children about the dangers of kite flying and the serious legal consequences.
A Rawalpindi Police spokesperson said the awareness campaign was part of ongoing efforts to ensure public safety.
