Rawalpindi admin taking steps for foolproof security arrangements for Muharram

RAWALPINDI, Jun 22 (APP): The Rawalpindi District Administration is taking steps for foolproof security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram.
Keeping in view the directives issued by the Punjab Home Department, the district administration and police high-ups have been continuously holding meetings to review the security situation in the district.
The Provincial Cabinet Committee, which visited Rawalpindi on Friday, was told that some 4,374 Majalis and 1,003 processions would be held in the Rawalpindi Division.

Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hassan Waqar Cheema has instructed all the lines departments to complete all the necessary arrangements before the advent of Muharram.
Assistant Commissioner City Eman Zafar took a round of the routes of Muharram processions and gave instructions regarding security measures.
Superintendent of Police Rawal Muhammad Haseeb Raja and SP Pothohar Talha Wali on Sunday chaired meetings of Sub-Divisional Police Officers and station house officers of their respective divisions at their offices regarding Muharram.

The SDPOs and SHOs were directed to personally monitor security arrangements and ensure implementation of the code of conduct and standard operating procedures issued by the Home Department.
The meetings were also attended by the custodians of Imambargahs.
As per the Punjab Government’s directive, Section 144 will remain in place from first to 10th Muharram across the province. There will be ban on display of weapons by the public, besides on propagation of material or slogans causing sectarian hatred.  Similarly, no one will be allowed to give statements hurting sentiments of members of other sects.

There will be no permission to bring out processions or hold Majalis except the already approved ones. Likewise, erecting bunkers or placing stones, bricks, bottles etc on the rooftops en route the processions have also been banned. Spectators will also be not allowed stand on rooftops or outsides shops.
Pillion riding will also be banned on 9th and 10th of Muharram, except the elderly, women or personnel of law enforcement agencies.
