MURREE, Feb 25 (APP): The Murree administration has intensified monitoring of Ramazan Bazaars to ensure the supply of essential food items at government-set rates and provide maximum relief to the public, officials said on Tuesday.
Under the directives of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Murree, Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Murree Arshad Iqbal visited the Ramazan Sahulat Bazaar to review availability, quality and pricing of food items. He also sought feedback from shoppers regarding the affordability and standard of goods.
“Following the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, essential items are being sold at subsidised rates in Ramazan Bazaars to provide relief to the public,” AC Iqbal said, adding that strict monitoring of the markets was ongoing.
In a separate exercise, price control magistrates carried out inspections across multiple markets to check compliance with official rate lists. Price Control Magistrate Usman Aslam Sial and his team visited several markets, imposing fines on shopkeepers violating the rates and issuing stern warnings where necessary. Similarly, Price Control Magistrate Ahmad conducted checks in areas including Chatta Mor, Ghoda Gali, Bansera Gali, Company Bagh, Treat, Upper Numbal and Numbal Board Gali.
The officials emphasised that all essential items must be sold at government-approved prices with rate lists displayed prominently to ensure transparency.
The administration reiterated that profiteering or hoarding would not be tolerated during the holy month, warning that strict legal action would follow any violations.
The authorities appealed to citizens and traders to cooperate, stating that these measures aim to provide genuine relief while upholding public service as a civic responsibility.
