RAWALPINDI, Jan 01 (APP):Murree experienced continued rain and snowfall on Thursday, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department recording four inches of snow and 12 millimetres of rain in the hill resort.
The weather attracted a large number of tourist families, who visited Murree to celebrate the New Year’s Night and enjoy the snowfall, many gathering along the Mall Road amid special arrangements made by the district administration.
The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by the snowfall, as all relevant departments remained active in the field on the directives of Deputy
Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi, an administration spokesperson said.
A fireworks display was held to mark the New Year, while special prayers were offered for the country’s security and development.
Tourists appreciated the measures taken by the district administration to ensure New Year celebrations in a secure and orderly environment.
The district administration remained on high alert following the rain and snowfall. Salt was sprinkled on various highways to prevent skidding, while officers and staff were deployed on major roads to clear snow and ensure smooth traffic flow.
The spokesperson said the control room and all facilitation centres remained functional to assist tourists and local residents.
Deputy Commissioner Shirazi said the administration had taken advance measures in view of the forecast of rain and snowfall, adding that ensuring the safety of tourists and providing them with facilitation remained its top priority.
He said effective security and traffic arrangements had been put in place for the New Year, with all administrative departments on alert in view of the celebrations and weather conditions.
He advised tourists and local residents to follow the advisory issued by the administration and cooperate with authorities to promote safe tourism.
