MULTAN, Jan 22 (APP): Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Provincial Minister for Energy Dr Akhtar Malik laid foundation stone of 500 Kilo Watt solar energy project at NFC Institute of Engineering and Technology here Saturday.


MPAs Muhammad Nadeem Qureshi, Saleem Labar and Javed Akhtar Ansari and Vice Chancellor Dr Malik Akhtar Ali Kalro were also present on this occasion.


Addressing the ceremony, Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the government was launching solar energy projects to fulfill the dream of clean and green Pakistan.


He said that work was continued with fast pace on alternative energy sources to reduce the risk of global warming and added that planning has been made to meet the need of the nation by generating cheap electricity through hydro projects and construction of dams.


Provincial Minister for Energy Dr Akhtar Malik said that Punjab government had started shifting 29 universities on solar energy and work was continued in phases on it.


He informed that 11,000 primary schools across the province would also be shifted on solar energy by end of the current financial year.


Similarly, 2400 basic health centers in Punjab are being shifted to solar energy in phased manner. He said that there was plan to provide energy through solar energy to 350 police stations including major hospitals which would save millions of rupee annually in line with electricity bills.


The minister said that in past, Shahbaz Sharif had rewarded his son-in-law in these schemes and caused financial loss to the national exchequer through financial corruption while Buzdar government was spending funds on welfare of masses.
