JALALPUR PIR WALA, Jul 09 (APP):Federal Minister and Chairman of the Kashmir Committee Rana Qasim Noon on Thursday
visited the Sheikh Ismail Umar Pur Flood Embankment Project to review the pace and quality
of the ongoing construction work aimed at protecting Jalalpur Pirwala and its adjoining
areas from recurring flood threats.
Member of the Punjab Assembly Lal Muhammad Joiya, senior district administration officials, officers of the Irrigation Department and other relevant authorities accompanied the federal minister
during the inspection.
Speaking to media representatives on the occasion, Rana Qasim Noon said the construction of the flood embankment was a key public welfare initiative of the Punjab government to safeguard the region against future flood disasters. He said the project was being executed on the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and was being completed on a priority basis to provide lasting protection to the local population.
The minister said the embankment, stretching approximately 12.5 kilometres, was being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs1.286 billion. Upon completion, he added, the project would serve as a strong flood protection barrier, safeguarding thousands of acres of agricultural land, numerous villages and the city of Jalalpur Pirwala from the devastating impacts of floods.
Rana Qasim Noon appreciated the efforts of the district administration, the Irrigation Department and all institutions engaged in the execution of the project. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to utilizing all available resources to ensure the protection of people’s lives and property and expressed confidence that the embankment would provide long-term safety and contribute to the socio-economic development and prosperity of the area.
