Punjab’s six districts perform 7,294 successful cardiac procedures:CM
LAHORE,Sep 29 (APP):Punjab Chief Minister(CM),Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said that the Punjab government was committed to establishing catheterization laboratories (cath labs) and cardiology centers in all district hospitals across the province to provide every citizen with access to quality cardiac healthcare.
In her message on World Heart Day,the CM said that a healthy heart and a healthy Punjab were the government’s commitment,stressing that prevention was better than cure and that adopting healthy lifestyle changes was essential to preventing heart diseases.
She paid tribute to doctors,nurses and paramedical staff for their services in treating heart patients and saving precious lives.
CM Maryam Nawaz said that 7,294 successful cardiac procedures had been performed on heart patients at cath labs in six districts of Punjab,including Jhelum,Jhang,Vehari,Kasur,Mianwali and Bahawalnagar.
She said that 4,448 patients had undergone angiography while angioplasty procedures had been successfully performed on 2,763 patients at these facilities.
Two patients had also been successfully fitted with temporary pacemakers at the cath lab of the District Headquarters Hospital Kasur.
The CM announced that cath labs would be established in eight districts by November and in another seven districts by February,further expanding access to specialized cardiac treatment across the province.
She said state-of-the-art cardiac centers would also be established in every division of Punjab to ensure the provision of modern cardiac healthcare facilities to the people.
CM Maryam Nawaz directed the authorities concerned to ensure the availability of free medicines at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology and all other cardiac hospitals,adding that free medicines,stents and bypass surgeries were being provided to heart patients.
She said free blood pressure and diabetes screening facilities were also being provided through Clinics on Wheels and field hospitals to facilitate early diagnosis and timely treatment.
Emphasizing the importance of preventive healthcare,the CM urged students to avoid junk food and smoking and adopt healthy habits to protect themselves from heart diseases.
She also stressed the need to launch an awareness campaign about heart diseases among women and directed the authorities to introduce awareness program in schools to educate children about heart health and the importance of physical activities.
The CM said that the Punjab government was committed to providing every citizen with a healthy life free from heart diseases through improved healthcare facilities,preventive measures and public awareness initiatives.
