Punjab police register 28 cases, impose Rs1m fines in smog crackdown

LAHORE, Nov 03 (APP):Punjab Police have stepped up their crackdown on smog and environmental violations, registering 28 new cases and imposing fines exceeding Rs1 million across Lahore and other districts in the past 24 hours. The crackdown is part of the ongoing efforts to combat pollution and reduce smog levels in the province.
A total of 396 individuals were fined, and 23 others were issued warnings during the operations. The violations included 37 instances of crop residue burning, 231 cases involving high-emission vehicles, five industrial infractions, and 19 related to brick kilns.
In total, since the launch of the province-wide campaign this year, 2,069 cases have been registered, and 1,862 violators arrested. The campaign has resulted in fines totaling over Rs21.7 million, with 85,216 individuals penalized and more than 11,000 warnings issued. Violations during the ongoing campaign include 779 incidents of crop residue burning, 51,258 cases involving high-emission vehicles, 1,694 industrial violations, and 3,284 linked to brick kilns.
Inspector General of Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, has called for intensified operations across highways, industrial areas, and agricultural lands to ensure compliance with anti-smog regulations. He reiterated that strict action would be taken against violators under a zero-tolerance policy.
