RAWALPINDI, Nov 12 (APP):Punjab Minister for Sports Faisal Ayub Khokhar on Wednesday announced that a state-of-the-art multi-purpose sports complex would be constructed in Rawalpindi to promote sports and provide modern facilities to athletes.
He made the announcement while inaugurating an international-standard swimming pool and players’ hostel here at the Liaquat Bagh Sports Complex.
The minister said the swimming pool, equipped with modern water filtration, heating and timing systems, had been completed at a cost of Rs 217 million, while the players’ hostel—featuring 80 beds and advanced residential and training facilities—was built at a cost of Rs 181 million.
Khokhar said the Punjab Government, under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, was providing modern sports infrastructure across the province, adding that the revival of Liaquat Bagh Sports Complex reflected its commitment to promoting healthy sporting activities.
He vowed to extend similar sports development projects to other districts of Punjab.
Condemning Tuesday’s terrorist incident in Islamabad, the minister said Pakistan’s enemies would face an exemplary defeat.
Speaking on the occasion, Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry said the Punjab Government, following the chief minister’s vision, was expanding opportunities for youth to engage in healthy pursuits.
He said the new swimming pool and players’ hostel would greatly benefit local athletes and enable Rawalpindi to host national and international events.
He added that separate facilities for women, including a gym and a hockey astro-turf, had been established to promote female participation in sports.
Barrister Daniyal said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz had always spearheaded Rawalpindi’s development through major projects such as the metro bus service and modern health facilities.
He also announced that more education, health and sports projects would soon be completed in Rawalpindi to provide citizens with better and healthier recreational opportunities.
He reaffirmed that Pakistan would not tolerate terrorism in any form and lauded the sacrifices of the armed forces and security institutions for national stability.
