ATTOCK, Nov 6 (APP): Director General Industries Punjab Zeeshan Shabbir Rana has announced that, under the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, and Secretary Industries Umar Masood, a province-wide special operation is being launched to ensure transparency in the system of weights and measures.
He said that the top priority of the Punjab government is to ensure that citizens receive essential commodities in accurate weights and at fair prices. In this regard, all district-level administrative officers have been directed to play an active role in ensuring the accuracy of weighing and measuring instruments across markets.
DG Industries informed us that in District Attock, the focal person for this special operation will be District Officer IPWM Rabia Naseem. She will supervise the campaign by inspecting open markets, grocery stores, fruit and vegetable vendors, tandoors, bakeries, and petrol pumps to verify compliance with proper weighing and measuring standards.
Rana warned that any shopkeeper or trader found cheating customers through under-weighing or incorrect measurements will face strict legal action, including fines and registration of criminal cases.
He added that this operation aims to promote transparency in the market and safeguard public interest by ensuring consumers receive goods according to the correct weight and measurement.
DG Industries further directed the district administration, market committees, and concerned departments to fully participate in the campaign and submit daily performance reports.
“Accurate weighing reflects honesty and integrity, and the Government of Punjab will not tolerate any negligence in this regard,” Zeeshan Shabbir Rana emphasized.
