LAHORE, Oct 29 (APP):The Punjab Home Department has launched a major province-wide initiative against illegal arms to strengthen law and order and ensure public safety.
The department has sought detailed reports on the identification, seizure, and legal action against illegal weapons from all districts, directing deputy commissioners, CCPO Lahore, DPOs, and CPOs to submit comprehensive data within three days.
According to a spokesperson for the Home Department, the report will include the type, model, and serial number of seized weapons, FIR details, names of the accused, and current custody information. The compiled data will also be shared with the Crime Control Department.
The spokesperson stated that the Punjab government is pursuing an effective, data-driven strategy to eliminate illegal arms from the province. He said that illegal weapons contribute to crime and pose a threat to public safety, adding that the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against those in possession of or involved in the trade of illegal arms.
The spokesperson further said that the scrutiny of all individual and institutional arms licenses and dealerships across Punjab has been completed, while the process of license issuance, renewal, and verification has been fully digitised in collaboration with NADRA. The Punjab government has also strengthened laws to curb illegal weapons, ensuring durable peace, rule of law, and protection of citizens’ lives and property, added spokesperson.
