Punjab govt to expand hospital network across province: Khawaja Salman

LAHORE, Nov 07 (APP):Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has announced that the provincial government is laying a comprehensive network of new hospitals across Punjab to ensure access to quality healthcare for all citizens.
Presiding over a meeting on Friday, the minister said that in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the government is striving to provide world-class health facilities to the people of the province. Former Chief Secretary Punjab and Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners Major (Retd) Azam Suleman Khan co-chaired the meeting.
The meeting decided to further expand the scope of hospital inspections by the Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) across Punjab. The participants reviewed ongoing measures to improve hospital standards and healthcare delivery. The administrations of Lahore General Hospital and Mayo Hospital Lahore were praised for their commendable performance during recent PHC inspections.
Khawaja Salman Rafique appreciated the efforts of the PHC and directed hospitals to provide quality treatment and care in line with PHC standards. He also announced a province-wide crackdown on quackery, terming quacks as “enemies of human health.”
Highlighting new health initiatives, the minister said that the state-of-the-art Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research is being constructed in Lahore at a cost of Rs 72 billion, while new cardiology hospitals are also being built to cater to patients with heart diseases.
The chairperson of the Board of Commissioners, Major (Retd) Azam Suleman Khan, lauded the efforts of Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique and Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood Khan for their dedication to improving the healthcare system. He reaffirmed that the Punjab Healthcare Commission will continue to play a guiding role in ensuring the best healthcare services for the people.
Secretary of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department Azmat Mahmood Khan said the Health Department and PHC are working together to make government hospitals better centers for patient care.
Meanwhile, CEO PHC Dr. Saqib Aziz informed that the commission has opened three new offices for public convenience and is actively reviewing the quality of healthcare services provided by hospitals across the province.
He said that the PHC remains committed to upholding healthcare standards through continuous inspections and stakeholder consultations.
