Punjab govt ensuring better health facilities in public hospitals: Minister Salman

LAHORE, May 29 (APP):Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services in public hospitals.
He stated that every effort is being made to ensure the availability of essential medicines and improve medical infrastructure across the province.
The minister expressed these views during his visit to Jinnah Hospital on Thursday. Accompanied by Punjab Health Advisor Retired Major General Dr. Azhar Mahmood Kiani, the minister inspected various departments including the medical and surgical emergency units, the angiography suite, and the revamping project underway at the hospital.
Khawaja Salman Rafique said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, significant steps are being taken to uplift the health sector. “The Chief Minister has approved Rs. 22 billion to clear hospital dues, and the budget for medicines has also been increased,” he said, adding that the government is prioritizing the completion of the ongoing revamping projects in public hospitals.
Highlighting plans for further development, the minister announced that the neurosurgery department of Jinnah Hospital would soon see major improvements. He appreciated the efforts of Professor Tayyaba Waseem, Principal of Allama Iqbal Medical College, for her role in improving hospital systems.
During the visit, the minister and Health advisor interacted with doctors and medical staff, and inquired from patients about the facilities being provided. They also chaired an important meeting at Allama Iqbal Medical College where all heads of departments, faculty members, and concerned officials were present. Professor Tayyaba briefed the attendees on the current medical facilities available at Jinnah Hospital.
Health Advisor Dr. Azhar Mahmood Kiani emphasized the importance of round-the-clock presence of doctors for patient care and stressed that the government is taking fundamental steps to reform the healthcare system.
Both the minister and advisor expressed dissatisfaction over delays in the revamping work and directed the contractors to expedite completion.
Special Secretary Operations of the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department, Tariq Mahmood Rahmani, MS Jinnah Hospital Dr. Syed Mohsin Ali Shah, and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
