Punjab govt approves Rs36bn Dadocha Dam project for clean water supply to Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI, Aug 23 (APP):The Punjab government has approved the construction of a surface water treatment plant and water supply system at Dadocha Dam to provide clean drinking water to the residents of Rawalpindi.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Housing Department, the project is estimated to cost Rs36 billion and is scheduled for completion by December 2029.
Under the project, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) will construct the water supply system, while 35 million gallons of treated water per day will be added to Rawalpindi’s supply network.
The spokesperson said the initiative, approved under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, would help improve the availability of safe and clean drinking water for the city’s residents.
After completion of the dam, WASA will undertake work on the transmission line and water supply network, according to the Housing Department.
The government described the project as a major step toward establishing a sustainable and secure water supply system in Rawalpindi, with the aim of ensuring a reliable supply of clean and safe drinking water to the city’s population.
