CHINIOT, Nov 14 (APP): In a sweeping operation across Chiniot, Punjab Food Authority (PFA) teams on Friday set up checkpoints to safeguard the quality of food items, testing 2,800 litres of milk being transported in carrier vehicles with a modern Lactoscan device. The analysis revealed a batch of substandard milk destined for local shops, prompting immediate fines under the food safety regulations.
Deputy Director Operations Dr. Muhammad Qasim Raza reported that the inspections also uncovered poor hygiene and inadequate freezer storage at several food outlets, leading to penalties totalling Rs 51,000. In addition, expired products were seized from grocery stores and destroyed on the spot, with further fines imposed on the shopkeepers responsible.
The PFA emphasized that such strict enforcement aims to protect public health and ensure that only safe, quality food reaches consumers.
Authorities warned that similar operations will continue across the district to curb violations and maintain compliance with food safety standards.
