LAHORE, Jun 15 (APP):Secretary Food Safety and Consumer Protection Dr. Kiran Khurshid said on Monday
that fruit and vegetable prices remained stable in Lahore, while ample stocks of essential
food items helped maintain a healthy balance between supply and demand in the market,
ensuring the availability of commodities at reasonable rates for consumers.
In a press statement, she said that effective measures were being taken across Punjab
on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to keep fruit and vegetable
prices within the reach of the common man.
She said potatoes were available at Rs30 per kilogramme, onions at Rs70, tomatoes
at Rs75, green chillies at Rs80, okra at Rs90, carrots at Rs100 and spinach at Rs25 per
kilogramme. Similarly, desi lemons were being sold at Rs170 per kilogramme, capsicum
at Rs185 and peas at Rs170.
Dr Kiran Khurshid said fruit prices had also remained largely stable, with watermelon
available at Rs45 per kilogramme, melon at Rs60, jamun at Rs130, mangoes at Rs260,
chikoo at Rs225, bananas (Grade-I) at Rs215 and papaya at Rs315 per kilogramme.
She said the ample availability of fruits and vegetables in the market was enabling
consumers to purchase quality produce at reasonable prices.
The secretary said continuous monitoring of prices and effective action against hoarding
and profiteering had helped ensure the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities.
Providing relief to the public remained the Punjab government’s top priority in line with
the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, she added.
Dr Kiran Khurshid said the government was also ensuring sufficient food stocks and
an efficient supply chain so that quality food items remained available to consumers
at affordable prices.
