Punjab Emergency Service rescues over 207,686 victims in Jan 2026

LAHORE, Feb 02 (APP): The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) rescued 207,686 victims while responding to 206,130 emergencies across the province during the month of January 2026.
Secretary Emergency Services Department Dr Rizwan Naseer while reviewing the monthly performance of all districts, expressed serious concern over the increasing number of road traffic accidents, reporting that 36,025 crashes resulted in 17,254 serious injuries and 463 deaths during the month.
Heads of various wings of the Emergency Services Department and the provincial monitoring officer attended the meeting, while district emergency officers participated through video link. District officers shared their performance reports, major emergencies, challenges, case studies and lessons learned.
According to data, the emergencies responded to included 144,804 medical cases, 36,025 road traffic crashes, 6,436 falls and slips, 6,195 delivery cases, 2,748 crime incidents, 2,060 occupational injuries, 2,015 fire incidents, 758 animal rescue cases, 662 burn cases, 416 electric shocks, 43 structural collapses, 24 drowning incidents and 3,944 miscellaneous operations.
The data further revealed that Lahore recorded the highest number of road traffic crashes with 6,661 incidents, resulting in 35 deaths. Multan reported 2,449 crashes, Faisalabad 2,394, Gujranwala 1,885, Sheikhupura 1,316 and Rawalpindi 1,164, while the remaining 20,156 accidents occurred in other districts of Punjab.
Similarly, most fire incidents were reported in major cities, including 446 in Lahore, 167 in Faisalabad, 142 in Rawalpindi, 104 in Gujranwala, 91 in Rahim Yar Khan and 90 in Multan.
Dr Rizwan Naseer said that most domestic fire incidents were caused by negligence and could be prevented through simple safety measures while using gas heaters, kitchen stoves, candles and household appliances. He urged owners of industrial and commercial buildings to ensure the implementation of safety standards, installation of fire hydrants and formation of Emergency Response Teams in accordance with the Punjab Community Safety Building Regulations 2022 to protect lives and property.
