Punjab Agriculture dept steps up anti-smog drive
LAHORE, Sep 13 (APP):The Punjab Agriculture Department was fully vigilant and actively engaged in implementing the Smog Control Program.
A spokesman for the department said here on Sunday that,as part of an awareness campaign targeting farmers in rice-growing areas, mre than 22,000 announcements had been made through mosques,while over 351,000 warning notices had been issued.
The Punjab Agriculture Department was also using social media effectively to further strengthen the campaign and enhance its impact.
The spokesman further stated that 107 public representatives had been contacted to make the ongoing anti-smog campaign more effective.
In addition,balers have been used over an area of more than 40,000 acres,while Kubota harvesters have been deployed across 122,000 acres for the management and disposal of rice crop residue.
Furthermore,145 dedicated Anti-Smog Squads of the Punjab Agriculture Department have been deployed in rice-growing areas and were carrying out continuous monitoring.
So far,19 incidents of rice crop residue burning have been reported across the province,involving a total area of 22 acres, while 18 individuals have been found in violation of the relevant regulations.
To date, fines amounting to Rs.300,000 have been imposed on those found involved in burning rice crop residue,while one FIR has been registered.
