LAHORE, Oct 29 (APP):Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has stressed the need to modernise and strengthen social work education in Pakistan to meet emerging social challenges and align academic practices with international standards.
He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation comprising Program Director, University of Bradford Dr Samina Karim, Head of Child Protection Punjab (UNICEF) Ms Zahida, CEO Center for Regional Policy and Dialogue (CRPD) Mr Mehran Wazir, Policy Specialist CRPD Dr Khadim Hussain, and Researcher, University of Bradford Dr Ilam Khan. Chairperson Department of Social Work Prof Dr Uzma Ashiq and faculty members were also present.
The delegation briefed the Vice Chancellor on the collaborative project titled “Strengthening of Social Work Education in Pakistan,” jointly undertaken by UNICEF, the University of Bradford, the Department of Social Work, University of the Punjab, and CRPD.
Prof Dr Muhammad Ali appreciated the initiative and said it holds great importance for developing modern and practice-based approaches in the field of social work. He said the project would contribute to improving academic quality, strengthening research capacity, and preparing students to effectively address real-world social issues.
Chairperson Prof Dr Uzma Ashiq said the collaboration aims to enhance academic standards, strengthen field-based learning, and promote evidence-based policy and practice. She added that under the visionary leadership of Prof Dr Muhammad Ali, this partnership would serve as a model for institutional development, global academic cooperation, and community engagement. She said the initiative represents a vital step toward empowering future social workers to contribute meaningfully to sustainable social development in Pakistan.
