LAHORE, Aug 14 (APP):Punjab Social Protection Authority (PSPA) Thursday organised a dignified and prestigious flag-hoisting ceremony to mark 78th Pakistan’s Independence Day.
Prominent dignitaries including Ben Warrington, Head of the British High Commission Lahore Office; Member Punjab Assembly and Convener of the Parliamentary Caucus for Special Children, Syeda Salma Saeed Hashmi and PSPA board member attended while renowned social activist Sam Ali Dada; Senior Development Advisor and Deputy Head of Office (British High Commission/FCDO), Saeed-ul-Hassan and senior officials of the PSPA were also present.
The ceremony commenced with the national anthem as the flag was proudly hoisted.
Vice Chairperson Jahan Ara Wattoo remarked that August 14 reminds us of the countless sacrifices, relentless struggle and unwavering courage that led to the creation of Pakistan. She emphasised that independence is a precious trust, and it is the shared responsibility of all citizens to uphold it by ensuring a strong, prosperous and peaceful Pakistan for future generations. Following the flag hoisting, the Independence Day cake was cut and special prayers were offered for the security, stability and progress of the beloved homeland.
The vice chairperson reiterated that the PSPA is committed to realising the dream of a Pakistan where justice, equality and human dignity are the fundamental rights of every citizen. She highlighted the authority’s mission to empower socially and economically marginalised groups, break the cycle of poverty and build a welfare society free from discrimination or exclusion based on background or any other factor.
Head of the British High Commission Lahore Office, Ben Warrington, expressed that Pakistan’s Independence Day is a moment not only for the people of Pakistan but also for their friends worldwide to honor the country’s sacrifices, achievements and resilience. He extended his best wishes for peace, development and prosperity in Pakistan.
Salma Saeed said that August 14 is not merely a date but a pledge to provide future generations with a society where respect, equality and opportunities are equally accessible to all.
Sam Ali Dada said that while Independence Day is a celebration of joy and pride, it also serves as a reminder of the responsibilities ahead. He emphasised that empowering women, youth and children with special needs is essential to building a strong and prosperous Pakistan.
