DERA GHAZI KHAN, Feb 22 (APP):Secretary Public Prosecution Department Salman Ghani held a session with district public prosecutors of Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah and Rajanpur at the Deputy Commissinor office to review prosecution performance and law and order.
Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary said prosecution officers must play an effective role in controlling crime and ensuring implementation of law. He stressed the need for thorough preparation of cases to secure convictions, especially in heinous crimes, and directed prosecutors to maintain close coordination with police and other concerned departments.
The meeting reviewed prosecution of cases, particularly those related to murder, kidnapping, rape and drug trafficking, and also examined the overall law and order situation. Cases emerging from tribal and mountainous areas were discussed and a strategy was devised to ensure effective prosecution in courts.
The secretary instructed officers to take steps for early disposal of pending cases. He said 113 new recruitment cases had been forwarded to the Punjab Public Service Commission for strengthening the department. He also informed officers that promotion processes had been expedited and would be carried out transparently on a merit basis.
Explaining the purpose of the session, Salman Ghani said it was aimed at identifying flaws in the criminal justice system.
The briefing informed that meetings of criminal justice system committees were being held regularly, and in some cases reconciliation had been reached between parties.
It was also shared that police body cameras were being installed to record complete audio and video evidence of witnesses.
