PRA takes action against food outlets, property developers

LAHORE, Jun 22 (APP):Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has intensified its crackdown against tax evadors, manipulaters of tax payments, and persistent tax defaulters across the province.
The enforcement actions have been taken against 12 food outlets including eight renowned fast-food chains, and four property developers for various tax-related violations, according to PRA spokesperson here Monday.
In Lahore, irregularities were detected in the records of 07 fast-food outlets, 02 traditional food chains, and a well-known coffee shop. Following detailed scrutiny, PRA recovered millions of rupees in unpaid taxes and imposed penalties on businesses involved in tax irregularities.
He stated that enforcement operations were also conducted in Multan and Sargodha against tax defaulters and businesses involved in non-compliance with provincial sales tax laws.
Meanwhile, PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra emphasized that sales tax collected from the public is a government trust and any misappropriation or withholding of such funds will be thoroughly investigated.
“PRA will not tolerate delays, concealment, or fraudulent practices in the deposit of taxes collected from citizens. Businesses involved in manipulation of tax returns or digital record tampering will face strict legal action and substantial penalties,” he said.
The Chairman urged citizens to always obtain a PRA-generated electronic invoice (e-bill) after making payments for taxable services. He also encouraged the public to report businesses which fail to issue e-bills through the PRA Sahulat App or PRA’s official social media platforms.
