LAHORE, Sep 22 (APP):Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has intensified action against tax evasion and
irregularities involving the issuance of fake receipts and non-transparent records
by restaurants and food businesses.
Several restaurants and food chains were found collecting tax from customers
while failing to properly record the tax in their official tax records. In several cases,
tax was included in customers’ bills, but discrepancies were subsequently identified
in the corresponding tax records, PRA spokesperson told media here Tuesday.
Multiple food businesses were fined for fraudulent practices, while notices were
issued for failure to use the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (e-IMS), he added.
The enforcement actions were carried out in Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Multan
following public complaints and vigilance reports. The PRA has directed restaurants
and food chains to issue accurate tax invoices to customers and maintain complete
and transparent records.
Food business operators with monthly sales of up to Rs. 500,000 were also required
to issue invoices under the e-IMS, he clarified.
“Any misappropriation of tax collected from customers will not be tolerated,” said
the PRA spokesperson.
