KARACHI, Jul 22 (APP):Sindh Minister for Energy and Planning & Development Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Tuesday said that People’s Poverty Reduction Program (PPRP) will be expanded across the province to benefit the women.
While addressing the participants of ‘Dissemination Workshop’ organized by the Sindh Rural Support Commission (SRSC) at Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP), he said that PPRP was initiated in 17 districts of the province.
Nasir Shah said that PPRP would be expanded across the province and the program on poverty was only being run in Sindh.
He was of the view, ‘Our sisters made the program successful.’ The program would be implemented in 29 districts to benefit the women, he said adding that Rs 1.5 million loan was being provided under the initiative. He said that the program would not be ended as it was Shaheed Mohtrama Benazir Bhutto and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s program.
Sharing details about the construction of houses, the Minister said that 2.1 million houses were being constructed for the flood affectees in the province.
The construction of 2.1 million houses was not a joke, he said adding that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also asked the Cheif Minister of Balochistan to build houses in Balochistan.
Shedding light on Solarization program of the Sindh government, he said that the solarization had been started, under which mini-grids will also be set up to provide the poorest of the poor with free of cost electricity.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SROS Mohammed Dittal Kalhoro, earlier, informed the participants about the overall performance and projects of the organization.
Chairperson of SRSO Board, Naheed Durani in her presentation of People’s Powerty Reduction Program (PPRP) in six districts, said that PPRP was a flagship program of the Sindh government, which started in 2017 to 2025. It started in six districts of the province including Khairpur Mirs, Sanghar, Umeekot, Mirpurkhas, Badin and Thatta and it ran under two phases. Third phase of the program is about to start.
She said that 70 percent of women were under multidimensional poverty in Sindh and these women were still vulnerable. She further said the collective efforts were needed to bring change to their lives.
