ISLAMABAD, Feb 03 (APP):Islamabad completed the first day of its four-day anti-polio campaign with 152,906 children vaccinated, achieving 33 percent of the overall target, officials said on Tuesday.
The figures were shared during a review meeting chaired by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, where progress and field arrangements were assessed to ensure full coverage in the remaining days.
According to officials, the first day of the campaign concluded as planned, with vaccination teams deployed across urban and rural areas of the federal capital.
The DC said the campaign was progressing according to schedule and teams were reaching households to vaccinate children against polio.
A detailed review of field performance was conducted during the meeting. Officials discussed coverage data, team movement, and access to hard-to-reach areas. The DC directed field officers to address gaps identified on the first day and ensure no child is missed during the remaining period of the campaign.
Meanwhile, to improve coordination for the second day, morning assemblies of assistant commissioners were held to review daily plans and assign responsibilities. The DC instructed officers to closely monitor team attendance and field activity, and to resolve issues reported by vaccination workers without delay.
Speaking at the meeting, DC Islamabad said polio workers were visiting every home to reach every eligible child.
He added that vaccination camps had been set up at bus terminals, public places, schools, and hospitals to ensure coverage of children who might be traveling or outside their homes during the campaign.
The DC also appealed to citizens to cooperate with vaccination teams and allow workers to administer polio drops to children.
He said public cooperation is essential to meet daily targets and complete the campaign within the scheduled four days.
Irfan Memon said community support plays a key role in ending polio. He stated that with cooperation from families, the goal of eliminating polio can be achieved. He added that teams were working under a structured plan and data was being reviewed daily to track progress.
The four-day polio campaign will continue across Islamabad, with authorities aiming to vaccinate all targeted children by the final day. Officials said daily reviews would remain part of the process to ensure transparency, accountability, and full coverage.
Authorities urged parents and guardians to play their role by ensuring their children receive polio drops and by supporting frontline workers during the campaign.
