Police intensify anti-smog crackdown, 824 cases registered

LAHORE, Oct 22 (APP):Under the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif for a ‘Smog-Free Punjab’, the Punjab Police are conducting vigorous operations to prevent smog, curb air pollution, and protect the environment across the province.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, during the ongoing anti-smog crackdown this year, 824 cases have been registered and 775 accused have been arrested for violations related to environmental protection and smog prevention. In the provincial capital Lahore alone, 34 cases have been registered and 41 accused arrested.
The spokesperson informed that police have fined over 290,000 smoke-emitting vehicles, impounded more than 24,000 vehicles, and suspended the fitness certificates of 283 vehicles as part of enforcement efforts.
Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed that the anti-smog crackdown be further intensified in industrial areas, agricultural zones, and along highways. He instructed field officers to ensure strict implementation of the government’s smog prevention SOPs under a zero-tolerance policy.
The IG Punjab reiterated that coordinated and sustained efforts by all departments are vital to achieving the Chief Minister’s vision of a clean, healthy, and smog-free Punjab.
