Police gear up anti-smog operations, Rs. 1m fine imposed in 24 hours

LAHORE, Nov 08 (APP): Punjab Police are actively conducting operations to control smog, reduce air pollution, and protect the environment across the province.
According to Punjab Police spokesperson, during the past 24 hours, 51 cases were registered and violators arrested in Lahore and other districts, with fines exceeding Rs. 1.067 million imposed on 491 individuals, while 38 received warnings. Violations included 101 cases of crop residue burning, 209 of smoke-emitting vehicles, and seven of brick kilns, the police spokesperson said.
Since the beginning of this year, a total of 2,275 cases have been registered and 2,027 violators arrested during anti-smog operations across Lahore and other districts. Fines exceeding Rs. 227.1 million have been imposed on 87,780 individuals, with 11,268 warnings issued. Reported violations include 1,166 cases of crop residue burning, 52,872 of smoke-emitting vehicles, 1,725 related to industrial activities, and 3,365 of brick kilns.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed officers to further accelerate anti-smog operations on highways, industrial areas, agricultural lands, and other locations, emphasizing strict action under a zero-tolerance policy against violators of smog SOPs.
