LAHORE, Nov 18 (APP):The Lahore Police have registered 8,833 cases and arrested 9,120 individuals in their ongoing crackdown against drug dealers this year.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Lahore Police spokesman revealed that a substantial quantity of narcotics has been seized from the accused, including 6,926 kilograms of cannabis, 394 kilograms of opium, 261 kilograms of heroin, 161 kilograms of ice and 60,889 liters of liquor.
The spokesman also provided a breakdown of arrests across various police divisions as 2,013 suspects were arrested in the City Division, 1,907 in the Cantt Division, 953 in the Civil Lines Division, 1,250 in the Saddar Division, 1,423 in the Iqbal Town Division and 1,574 in the Model Town Division.
CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana emphasized that large-scale operations against drug trafficking are ongoing. He assured that police are strictly adhering to a comprehensive strategy aimed at curbing drug smuggling and its use. He instructed officers to intensify targeted operations against sale and online distribution of modern drugs, urging them to work closely with other relevant agencies to dismantle drug supply chain.
The CCPO also highlighted importance of collaboration across various police wings to control crime and ensure regular search and combing operations around educational institutions. He called for use of advanced technology to disrupt sale of drugs through online platforms and courier services. The CCPO Lahore further stressed that protecting younger generation from the dangers of drug abuse is a collective societal responsibility.
