PESHAWAR, Jul 10 (APP):The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of monsoon rains across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and warned of possible flash floods, urban flooding and landslides in various parts of the province from July 11 to 17 with intermittent breaks.
According to the PMD’s Regional Met Office in Peshawar, moist currents are currently penetrating most parts of the region and are likely to intensify over the next few days. A westerly wave is also expected to approach by the evening or night of July 13, further enhancing the likelihood of significant weather activity.
Under the prevailing weather system, rain showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected in several districts including Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Kolai Pallas Kohistan, Torghar, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Hangu, Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and both North and South Waziristan.
Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) through a letter to Deputy Commissioner has cautioned that flash floods may occur in local streams and nullahs, especially in hilly and vulnerable areas like Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Kolai Pallas Kohistan and others.
Urban flooding is likely in low-lying parts of Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Kohat, and D.I. Khan. Riverine floods may affect Chitral, Swat, Panjkora, and Kabul rivers.
