GUJRAT, May 31 (APP):The Punjab government has initiated a comprehensive plan to address long-standing sewerage issues in Gujrat city under the Punjab Development Program, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
A key meeting in this regard was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Safdar Hussain Virk. Officials from the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC), Local Government Department, Public Health Engineering, and other departments attended.
A consultant team from Lahore, led by Muhammad Waqas, presented an assessment of the existing sewerage system and discussed preliminary proposals for its improvement.
The deputy commissioner said resolving drainage issues in the northern rural areas of Gujarat is a top priority. He proposed constructing a new disposal point in the north, to be linked with the Halsey Drain for efficient water flow and drainage.
He directed officials to immediately clear blocked sewer lines across the city and warned that negligence would not be tolerated. He also issued instructions to urgently connect the sewerage system on Badshahi Road to the current disposal infrastructure.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Khizar Hayat, Assistant Commissioner Bilal Zubair, Executive Engineer Local Government, Chief Officer Municipal Corporation Khaliq Dad Gara, and Deputy Director Development Jahangir Shabbir Butt also attended.
The PMDFC and the consultant team conducted a field visit and said they would return with a detailed proposal for swift implementation.The deputy commissioner emphasized the government’s resolve to transform Gujarat into a clean, healthy, and modern city by utilizing all available resources.
