PESHAWAR, Oct 16 (APP):The Peshawar High Court has denied bail to Muhammad Riaz, an accused in the multi-billion rupee Upper Kohistan financial scandal.
Muhammad Riaz, a former cashier at the National Bank’s Dasu branch, is alleged to have created dummy construction companies and issued 22 cheques in their names.
Special Prosecutor Arbab Kaleemullah stated the accused accumulated billions in the scandal and is now seeking a voluntary return of five billion rupees.
During the hearing, Justice Sahibzada Asadullah remarked, “Where did billions of rupees come from for a bank cashier? This is injustice.”
Following arguments from both sides, the two-judge bench rejected the bail plea and ordered Riaz to stay in jail.
