RAWALPINDI, November 06 (APP):The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Rawalpindi has intensified efforts to make the city greener and more beautiful through large-scale tree plantation and in-house cultivation of plants and flowers, in line with the vision of the Punjab government.
Under the special directives of Director General (DG) PHA Ahmed Hassan Ranjha, the authority is not only executing multiple beautification projects across Rawalpindi but also ensuring self-sufficiency in plant production through its dedicated nurseries.
The authority is cultivating a wide variety of plants, including shade trees, decorative flowers, and native species, using advanced horticultural techniques and high-quality seeds. These nurseries, managed by skilled horticulturists, play a vital role in meeting the plantation needs of parks, greenbelts, and public spaces throughout the city.
DG Ahmed Hassan Ranjha said PHA’s nurseries are operating at full capacity, producing quality plant breeds that are already enhancing the city’s beauty and contributing to a cleaner, greener environment.
He said air layering techniques — locally known as “knotting” — are also being used to grow plants efficiently. This method allows roots to develop on plant branches before transplantation, ensuring healthier growth and higher survival rates.
“The hardworking teams at PHA’s nurseries are nurturing a wide range of plants and flowers with great care,” Ranjha said. “Their dedication has made PHA Rawalpindi self-reliant in plant cultivation, significantly reducing dependence on external suppliers.”
He reaffirmed that PHA remains committed to transforming Rawalpindi into a model green city, aligning with Punjab’s broader environmental and urban beautification agenda.
The plants raised in PHA nurseries are being systematically transplanted across major parks, roadsides, and green corridors of the city, visibly improving the cityscape and promoting environmental sustainability.
