RAWALPINDI, October 30 (APP):The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Rawalpindi has accelerated its efforts to make the city greener, cleaner, and more aesthetically appealing through a series of sustainable tree plantation and beautification initiatives.
Under the special directives of Director General (DG) PHA Rawalpindi, Ahmed Hassan Ranjha, the authority is not only engaged in citywide horticultural projects but is also ensuring self-sufficiency in plant production through the development and maintenance of its nurseries.

A wide variety of shade trees, flowering plants, and ornamental species are being cultivated daily in the nurseries using high-quality seeds.
Through advanced horticultural techniques, including air layering, locally known as knotting, the authority is successfully propagating plants that are later transplanted across parks, greenbelts, and public spaces in Rawalpindi.
“This process allows us to grow healthy and robust plants whose roots emerge from branches, ensuring better survival rates once planted,” said DG Ahmed Hassan Ranjha. “Our goal is to make PHA fully self-sufficient in the availability and growth of plants, reducing dependency on external sources.”
Ranjha said the plants produced in PHA nurseries are significantly contributing to the city’s beautification and environmental restoration, aligning with the Punjab government’s vision of a greener Rawalpindi.
“The workers and horticulturists at PHA nurseries are performing their duties with great skill and dedication,” he said adding, “Their efforts have not only enhanced the natural beauty of the city but are also helping to mitigate the impacts of urban pollution.”
With continuous plantation drives and ongoing nursery development, the PHA ensures that Rawalpindi becomes one of Punjab’s most environmentally vibrant cities – where greenery, sustainability, and beauty coexist.
