LAHORE, Jul 18 (APP):The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), in collaboration with Al-Khidmat Foundation, launched a monsoon tree plantation campaign at Jilani Park on Saturday.
PHA Managing Director Zahid Parvez Warraich inaugurated the drive by planting a sapling and urged citizens to play their role in increasing Lahore’s green cover.
Additional Managing Director Zona Butt, Project Director Waqar Rehman, PHA officials and Al-Khidmat Foundation volunteers participated in the plantation activity.
Addressing the ceremony, the PHA MD said the campaign was part of ongoing efforts to make Lahore greener and environmentally sustainable. He urged citizens to plant trees and ensure their proper care, saying public participation was essential for the success of such initiatives.
He said tree plantation was an effective response to climate change and the monsoon season provided suitable conditions for the healthy growth of saplings.
Appreciating the participation of Al-Khidmat Foundation volunteers, he said cooperation between public institutions and welfare organizations would help achieve environmental conservation goals.
The MD also highlighted PHA’s free home delivery programme for saplings, under which citizens can receive two indigenous plants by contacting the PHA helpline 1399. He said PHA gardeners would also provide free plantation services at homes.
Zona Butt said the authority was committed to achieving its plantation targets and would continue expanding Lahore’s green cover through community participation and sustained plantation campaigns.
