LAHORE, Oct 13 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has halted production at two famous packaged milk units for failing to meet food quality parameters, based on laboratory test reports.
The authority has also imposed a fine of Rs 4.380 million on several packaged milk companies after 18 of their milk samples failed to meet standards, revealing a lack of nutritional value. The PFA imposed hefty fines on units in Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Kasur.
Moreover, the PFA has lodged two FIRs against food business operators (FBOs) at the respective police stations for violating the Punjab Pure Food Regulations.
PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid said the authority had launched a crackdown against packaged milk brands across the province and collected 59 milk samples of different brands for laboratory testing to check the milk quality.
On Monday, two popular packaged milk units were immediately shut down in the Rahim Yar Khan by the PFA after laboratory test reports confirmed they failed to comply with essential food quality parameters. He further said the authority had found adulterated ingredients in the milk samples of both brands.
He said that packaged milk would not be allowed to be supplied in the market if it does not meet the prescribed standards. Whether the brand is big or small, packaged milk will only be allowed to be sold if it contains the correct amount of nutritional ingredients, he added.
The PFA DG said: “On the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, complete traceability and inspection of milk are being ensured in every way.”
