LAHORE, Jul 08 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has foiled an attempt to supply substandard meat in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and discarded 250 kilograms of unhygienic meat during an operation, here on Tuesday.
The enforcement team, on the directions of PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid, also registered an FIR and arrested three individuals involved in transporting the meat without mandatory documentation. Meat sourced from a sick animal was being illegally transported in an auto rickshaw for distribution.
The DG said that the confiscated meat was immediately incinerated at Punjab Agriculture & Meat Company (PAMCO) facility after laboratory confirmation of its harmful nature. He added that the suspects failed to provide the animal health fitness certificate, which is mandatory meat distribution. He added that the consumption of such unhygienic meat can result in serious health complications. He said that fraudulent elements involved in such illegal activities are not selling food, but spreading diseases in society.
The DG warned that strict action would be taken against all such mafias involved in food adulteration and that no leniency would be shown to those violating food safety laws. He said that regular inspection campaigns are ongoing across the province to ensure the provision of safe and quality food to the public.
He requested citizens to report food safety violations to PFA via its 1223 helpline.
