MULTAN, Jun 30 (APP):In a major crackdown against food safety violations, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) detected a fat rendering unit on Mati Tal road and seized 4,000 liters of substandard, untraceable cooking oil prepared from animal waste.
The operation was conducted on the special instructions of Director General Muhammad Asim Javed, as part of the PFA’s ongoing campaign against health hazards in the food sector.
A food safety team raided a fat rendering unit located on Mati Tal road. During the raid, a large quantity of illegally produced oil was confiscated. The unit was allegedly processing animal by-products to extract oil intended for human consumption.
An FIR was registered at Alpa police station against the owners of fat rendering unit. In addition, oil samples were collected and sent to the PFA laboratory for further analysis
and legal proceedings.
DG PFA Muhammad Asim Javed stated that the production and distribution of untraceable cooking oil from animal waste was a serious violation of food safety standards. Such activities will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
