MULTAN, Jun 24 (APP): In a continued effort to eliminate food adulteration, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) unearthed an illegal tea packing unit involved in producing adulterated tea leaves in Chak 25/15-L Bhattay Wali area Mian Channu.
The raid was conducted under the special directives of Director General Muhammad Asim Javed.
Following a tip-off, the PFA food safety team raided the facility and seized 210 kilograms of substandard and adulterated tea leaves. The samples were immediately sent to the laboratory for analysis while the presence of artificial color was found during the test. An FIR was registered against the business owners.
The adulterated tea was being packaged and labeled under the names of well-known brands, intending to sell in the market. DG PFA Muhammad Asim Javed said that field teams were active round the clock to curb adulteration and counterfeit in the food sector.
He urged the public to report adulteration, counterfeiting in food practices by calling the PFA helpline 1223.
