MUZAFFARGARH, Mar 02 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Monday destroyed 1,350 kilograms of diseased and dead chicken during raids conducted in different areas of Muzaffargarh district as part of its ongoing campaign against unsafe meat.
According to PFA spokesperson,food safety teams carried out operations in Khanpur Bagga Sher and Mahmood Kot. In Khanpur Bagga Sher,officials intercepted a rickshaw loaded with underweight and sick chickens and arrested two suspects on the spot.
The spokesperson said the poultry was allegedly being prepared for supply to local hotels at cheaper rates.
In a separate action in Mahmood Kot,a shop owner was booked for selling meat obtained from dead and diseased chickens.
A veterinary doctor examined the confiscated meat and declared it extremely hazardous to human health.
Cases have been registered against the accused under the Punjab Food Authority Act 2011 at the relevant police stations.
Director Operations South Punjab,Shehzad Magsi said that a zero-tolerance policy was being strictly enforced against those involved in the sale of unsafe meat,adding that ensuring safe and hygienic food for citizens remains the authority’s top priority.
