PFA seals two water plants, discards 2,200kg meat

LAHORE, Sep 21 (APP):Enforcement team of Punjab Food Authority intensified its crackdown on food safety violations in Lahore, shutting down two water plants, inspecting 39 food points, food units and suppliers, imposing fines totaling Rs390,000 on 24 food points, and inspecting 45,000kg of poultry and meat, while discarding 2,200kg of dead meat. Operation was conducted under the directions of DG PFA Raja Mansoor Ahmad.

Food safety team also carried out inspections at water plants located in Bahria Town and College Road and shut them down after their water samples were declared failed. Team also conducted an early morning checkpoints and checked 13 meat carrying vehicles. During inspections of food points, poor sanitation arrangements, heavy insect infestation, absence of mandatory records and essential documents, open drains, rusty machinery and dirty floors were found in violation of food safety laws.

PFA spokesperson said that strict action was taken against food businesses found failing to comply with food safety and hygiene standards. He said that continuous monitoring and inspections are being carried out across Lahore to ensure the provision of safe and quality food to the public and to curb food adulteration.

PFA spokesperson further said that compliance with food laws is mandatory for all food businesses operating in Punjab. He said that elements playing with public health would not be given any concession and that PFA would continue taking strict action against those found violating food safety regulations.
