LAHORE, Feb 23 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed a grinding unit and discarded 1,400 kilograms of expired frozen meat during enforcement operations in Kahna Nau and on Sundar Road, here on Monday.
PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid told media that food safety teams inspected 5,000 kilograms of meat and found a significant quantity unfit for human consumption. The teams also seized 900 kilograms of gram lentils, 80 kilograms of gram flour (besan), and 100 kilograms of corn, along with a grinding machine and weighing scale. The production unit was sealed for preparing substandard and adulterated gram flour by mixing corn flour. Samples were collected and sent for laboratory analysis.
He revealed that expired products were stored without mandatory labeling, while fresh and expired meat was kept together in clear violation of food safety regulations. Poor sanitation conditions were observed at the premises, and employees lacked valid medical certificates and mandatory documentation.
The DG said that timely action was taken in line with the Chief Minister’s vision to safeguard public health. He warned that strict action, including registration of FIRs and sealing of businesses, would continue against those involved in food adulteration and the sale of unsafe products.
He urged food business operators to strictly comply with PFA regulations, adding that no leniency would be shown during the holy month to those endangering public health for illegal profits. He reaffirmed that enforcement operations are continuing round the clock to achieve the mission of an adulteration-free and healthy Punjab.
