LAHORE, Nov 08 (APP): Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed two marriage halls for using expired ingredients and imposed fines amounting to Rs. 13.659 million on 549 food businesses during a large-scale inspection drive carried out under the Chief Minister’s “Adulteration-Free Punjab” mission.
More than 1,990 marriage halls and marquees were inspected across the province, while 1,133 were issued improvement notices for various violations. The authority also discarded over 550 kilograms of stale food, 130 kilograms of substandard spices, and more than one maund of spoiled cooking oil.
According to Director General Punjab Food Authority Asim Javed, 525 marriage halls were inspected in Lahore Division, 235 in Faisalabad, 123 in Sahiwal, 374 in Rawalpindi, 255 in Gujranwala, 132 in Sargodha, 140 in Bahawalpur, 120 in Multan, and 88 in Dera Ghazi Khan Division. He said the sealed halls were found using expired raw materials, while their kitchen areas contained flies, insects, and cobwebs, reflecting extremely unhygienic conditions.
The DG said the authority would not compromise on food quality and would continue province-wide inspections in line with the Chief Minister’s vision to ensure provision of safe and standardised food. He urged citizens to report any food-related complaints on helpline 1223 and advised marriage hall owners to ensure full compliance with Punjab Food Authority regulations.
