LAHORE, Dec 16 (APP): An enforcement team of Punjab Food Authority, on the directions of Director General PFA Muhammad Asim Javaid, raided and sealed a fake honey manufacturing unit operating secretly in a residential area of Badami Bagh and registered an FIR against the accused.
Food safety team discarded more than two maunds of fake honey rose petals, fennel seeds, sugar and other adulterants were also seized, along with 150 bottles used for packaging fake honey.
Director general stated that fake honey was being prepared using open colors and harmful chemicals. He said that sugar, glucose syrup and flower petals were mixed into the honey to mislead consumers. He stated that the vigilance team traced the unit after prolonged surveillance and intelligence-based reconnaissance.
He further stated that the use of substandard and adulterated honey is extremely hazardous to human health and termed the adulteration of honey with chemicals and artificial ingredients a heinous act. He said that, in line with the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab, continuous operations are underway against food adulteration and forgery across the province.
He has requested the public to support the PFA in eliminating the adulteration mafia and report to the PFA on its 1223 helpline number in case of any complaints.
