LAHORE, Jun 17 (APP): A Punjab Food Authority enforcement team has lodged an FIR against a vehicle owner for supplying counterfeit milk during an operation conducted on the Lahore-Kasur Bypass.
Dairy safety teams took action on the directions of Director General Muhammad Asim Javed. The team seized the vehicle (LEJ-6509), confiscated prohibited blue drums and discarded 550 litres of white liquid resembling milk.
The Director General said that the adulterated milk was intended for supply to Lahore and adjoining areas. He said that harmful substances including water and chemical powders were found during screening and milk samples have been sent to the lab for detailed analysis.
He stated that food safety checkpoints were set up at the city’s entry points, where 277,330 litres of milk were screened. He stated that preparing and transporting counterfeit milk is a grave crime and assured that strict action will be taken against those involved.
DG Asim Javed said that no compromise will be made on milk quality and new legislation is being introduced to strengthen food safety laws in the province. He requested citizens to report food safety violations and lodge complaints by calling the PFA helpline 1223.
