LAHORE, Jun 10 (APP):Punjab Food Authority (PFA) continued its ongoing inspections at food outlets across major travel points during the Eid special operation, under the directions of Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid.
PFA food safety teams inspected 790 food points located on motorways, GT Road, bus terminals and railway stations. Teams imposed Rs 956,000 worth of fines on 66 food businesses and issued improvement notices to 611 outlets over violations of food safety standards. Over 130 litres of substandard oil, soft drinks and snacks were seized and discarded on the spot.
The DG said that inspections were carried out in various cities, including Lahore 31, Faisalabad 89, Multan 89, Bahawalpur 64, Rawalpindi 58, Sargodha 56, Gujranwala 42 and Sahiwal 46, along with other cities.
He said that PFA food safety teams also inspected service areas along motorways including Sukhiki 33, Sial Mor 31, Bhera 58, Burhan 16, Kallar Kahar 18 and Chakri 22, besides food points in Jhelum, Nankana Sahib, Shorkot, Gojra, Khanewal, Uch Sharif and Rahim Yar Khan. He added that food was found being fried in substandard oil at several known restaurants while expired and poor-quality items were confiscated and discarded during the operation. Scheduled and surprise visits are being conducted regularly to ensure food safety during peak travel seasons.
The DG warned that selling unapproved and unsafe food items at travel points is strictly prohibited and that strict action will be taken against violators. He urged citizens to report food-related complaints during travel by calling PFA’s 1223 helpline.
