PFA imposes Rs 235,000 fine on violators

SARGODHA, Feb 24 (APP): The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Mianwali team imposed a collective fine of Rs 235,000 on various food business operators for violating health regulations and selling substandard items during the last week.
Following the directions of Director General PFA Asim Javed and Deputy Commissioner Asad Abbas Magsi, the enforcement teams inspected hotels, grocery stores, meat shops, and sweets factories across the district, a PFA spokesperson said on Tuesday.
During the crackdown, teams established pickets at entry and exit points of Mianwali to inspect 31,818 liters of milk being transported via different vehicles.
The authority discarded 8.475 kg of miscellaneous food items, 1 kg biscuits, 143.5 liters of expired beverages, 76.7 kg China salt, 18.27 kg expired spices, 2.42 kg expired tea, 8 kg expired fruit preserves, and 4.7 kg harmful food colors.
Under the supervision of the Deputy Director Operations Shahbaz Sarwar, the PFA is also conducting daily quality checks of the Iftar Dastarkhwan established by the Punjab government to ensure the provision of healthy food to the public, the spokesperson added.
