LAHORE, Aug 08 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) under the supervision of its Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid raided a famous ice cream production unit on 46km Multan Road and imposed Rs 0.5 million fine due to using expired ingredients.
Meanwhile, the authority has discarded 893kg of expired strawberry and vanilla flavours, 975kg of expired milk powder and 355kg of cocoa powder.
PFA DG Muhammad Asim Javaid said that the authority took action for using expired food-graded flavours in the preparation of yummy ice cream. Meanwhile, the raiding team also witnessed dirty walls, fungus on machines and stagnant water in the production area.
He expressed serious concern over recovering a huge quantity of expired food products during a raid on an ice cream unit and said that using expired raw materials in preparing children’s food is harmful to their health.
He said that the authority deals with small and big food businesses without any discrimination as per the law. On the special directions of Chief Minister Punjab, strict legal action will be taken against those involved in negligence in the preparation of food, he added.
He urged people to read the writing on the label before purchasing any foodstuff and avoid purchasing substandard foodstuff. He has requested the public to support the PFA in eliminating the adulteration mafia and report to the PFA on its 1223 helpline number in case of any complaints.
